A bank transaction appears twice

Why a transaction can show up twice in Banking, and how to clean it up safely.
Todah guards against the usual causes of duplicates: a bank feed never brings the same transaction in twice, an imported statement skips lines already in Todah, and reconnecting a bank skips the history it already sent. A line can still appear twice when:
- A statement was imported for an account that also has a bank feed, and the bank describes the transaction differently in its file than in its feed, so the two do not look the same.
- A line was added by hand and then also arrived in a file or feed with a different description or date.
- There really were two transactions for the same amount on the same day. Check your bank's own statement before deleting anything.
Clean it up
- In Banking, set the Statement drop-down to the batch you think is extra, to see which lines came in with it.
- If one copy is matched and the other is not, keep the matched one.
- On the extra copy, choose More actions → Delete at the end of the row and confirm.
- Repeat for each duplicate.
Be careful: Deleting a matched line also undoes its match: it removes the payment it recorded on an invoice or bill, which then shows as owing again. Delete the unmatched copy, not the matched one.
Avoid it next time
- Once a bank feed is connected for an account, stop importing files for that account.
- If you add a line by hand while waiting for a feed, delete it when the feed brings the real one.
