A bank statement will not import
Owner or admin
The messages you may see when importing a statement, and how to fix the file.
| "Choose a statement file first: a CSV, PDF or photo." or "Choose a CSV file first." | You chose Import without picking a file. Use the file chooser first. The first message appears where reading PDFs and photos is available. |
|---|---|
| "No rows found to import" | Todah found no lines it could use. Usually the first row is not the column headings, or the headings are not ones Todah knows. Make sure the first row has a date heading, a description heading and an amount heading (or debit and credit). |
| "The dates in this file could be read as day/month or as month/day …" | Every date in the file could be read either way, for example 03/04/2026. Set Date Format to Day/month/year or Month/day/year, the way your bank writes dates, and choose Import again. |
| "The dates in this file are not written the same way throughout …" | Some dates are day first and some month first. Choose the Date Format your bank uses; any row that does not fit it is named in the next message. |
| "Nothing was imported. These dates could not be read: …" | The message names the rows. A date is missing or written in a way Todah does not read. Fix those rows (for example to 2026-03-15) or delete them in your spreadsheet program, and import again. |
| "Imported 0 transactions. Skipped … already in Todah" | Every line in the file is already in Banking, usually because this file was imported before. Nothing was doubled and the import did not count toward the Free allowance. |
| Every line shows $0.00 | The amount column is not called amount, debit or credit (or one of the other names Todah knows). Rename it and import again (delete the bad lines first). |
| Money in shows as money out, or the other way round | Your bank uses the opposite sign. Change the signs in the file, or use separate debit and credit columns, then import again. |
| "That file is too large." or "Too many rows." | Download a shorter date range from your bank and import it in parts. |
| "Reading statements from PDFs or photos needs bill & receipt scanning enabled for this workspace. Import a CSV instead." | Use a CSV file from your bank. |
| "That statement could not be read. Try a clearer scan, or import a CSV instead." or "No transactions could be read from that statement." | Take a sharper, straighter photo in good light, use the PDF from your bank instead of a photo, or use a CSV. |
| "Files must be 10 MB or smaller." | The PDF or photo is too big. Use a smaller photo or split the PDF. |
| "Your plan allows … statement imports this month." | You have used the Free plan's 5 imports for this month. Wait for next month, add the odd line with Add Manually, or upgrade. |
Tip: Open the CSV in a spreadsheet program first. If you can see clear Date, Description and Amount columns with one transaction per row, Todah can read it.
