Card payouts from Stripe

Owner or admin

How to handle the deposit Stripe sends to your bank for card payments, so it is not counted as income a second time.

On this page

  • Step by step
  • Why not match it to the invoices
  • Stripe's fees

When a client pays an invoice by card through Todah, Todah marks the invoice Paid straight away. A few days later Stripe sends the money to your bank, often several payments together and less Stripe's fees. That deposit is a payout: money you already counted when each invoice was paid, now arriving in the bank.

Step by step

  1. In the menu on the left, choose Banking.
  2. Find the Stripe deposit in Transactions (its description usually includes STRIPE) and choose Match.
  3. In the Match Transaction window, choose the Categorise tab.
  4. In This Line Is, choose Card payout.
  5. Choose Save. The line shows as Matched, with "Card Payout" under its description.

Why not match it to the invoices

The invoices in the payout are already paid, so they are not offered for matching, and recording them again would count the money twice. Card payout says "this is money already recorded on its invoices" and nothing more.

Stripe's fees

A payout is usually a little less than the card payments in it, because Stripe keeps its fees. To count the fees as an expense, record a bill for them (for example once a month, from the fee total in your Stripe dashboard) with Stripe as the vendor and a category such as bank charges, and mark it Paid.

Good to know: For which payments a payout contains, open your Stripe dashboard from Settings → Payments. Stripe lists each payout and the payments in it.
