What each bank line status means

Unmatched, Matched, Part Matched, Reconciled and Ignored: what each status says about a bank line and what you can do next.
Every bank line in Banking → Transactions has a status in the Status column. It tells you whether the line is accounted for in your books yet.
| Unmatched | Nobody has dealt with this line yet. It is in Needs attention. Next: choose Match. |
|---|---|
| Matched | The line is accounted for: paid an invoice or bill, recorded as income, paired as a transfer, or categorised. The line under its description says how. Next: when you have checked it against your bank statement, choose Reconciled. |
| Part Matched | The line paid one or more invoices or bills, but some of its money is not accounted for yet, for example a client who paid $500 against a $300 invoice. The line says how much is still to match, and it stays in Needs attention. Next: choose Match again for the rest. |
| Reconciled | You have ticked the line off against your bank statement. It is locked: it cannot be unmatched until you choose Undo Reconciled. |
| Ignored | You set the line aside. It does not count anywhere: not in the money totals on the Banking screen and not in your bank balance on the balance sheet. Next: Un-ignore if that was a mistake. |
How a line moves between them
- Unmatched becomes Matched when you match it, or Part Matched when the documents you match it to take only part of its money.
- Part Matched becomes Matched when the rest is matched to another document or recorded as income.
- Matched becomes Reconciled with Reconciled, and back with Undo Reconciled.
- Matched or Part Matched becomes Unmatched with Unmatch.
- Unmatched becomes Ignored with Ignore, and back with Un-ignore.
