Transfers, credit cards and other lines

Where each kind of bank line goes when it is not simply a client paying an invoice or you paying a bill.
Every bank line belongs somewhere in your books. This is the quick guide for the lines that are not a client paying an invoice or you paying a bill. All of them start the same way: choose Match on the line.
| Moving money between two of your accounts | Transfer tab → Match Transfer. See "Match a transfer between your own accounts". |
|---|---|
| Money you put into the business | Categorise tab → Owner contribution. |
| Money you took out for yourself | Categorise tab → Owner draw. |
| A loan arriving, or a loan payment | Categorise tab → Loan received or Loan repayment. |
| A Stripe payout of card payments | Categorise tab → Card payout. |
| A cash sale, interest, a grant or other money in with no invoice | Record Income from This Deposit. |
| A bank fee, interest charged, or spending with no bill | Create a Bill from This Entry, with a category such as bank charges. |
| A client paying more than the invoice | Match it to the invoice; the extra stays on the line as Part Matched until you match or record it. |
| A duplicate line | Delete it, or Ignore it. |
Credit card accounts
- A connected credit card brings its lines in like any other account. A purchase on the card is a Withdrawal; a payment or refund onto the card is a Deposit.
- Match each card purchase to its bill, or use Create a Bill from This Entry.
- Paying off the card from chequing, with both accounts in Todah, is a transfer: pair the withdrawal from chequing with the payment arriving on the card.
- If the card account is not in Todah, record each card purchase as a bill and leave it Outstanding. When you pay the card from chequing, match that withdrawal to those bills with Split Match (Business and Enterprise), or record one bill for the whole card statement and match the payment to it.
- Use the Statement drop-down to work through one account at a time.
