Match a transfer between your own accounts
Pair the money leaving one of your accounts with the same money arriving in another, so a transfer is neither income nor spending.
Moving $1,000 from chequing to savings is not income or spending: it is your own money changing pockets. When both accounts are in Todah, the transfer shows twice: a withdrawal from one and a deposit into the other. Matching them as a transfer pairs the two lines and accounts for both at once.
Before you start
- Both accounts need to be in Banking, through a bank feed or a statement import for each. The two halves must come from different accounts (or different statement files).
- Both lines must be Unmatched, for exactly the same amount, one money out and one money in.
Step by step
- In the menu on the left, choose Banking.
- Find either half of the transfer in Transactions and choose Match.
- In the Match Transaction window, choose the Transfer tab. Todah lists the lines in your other accounts for the same amount going the other way, nearest date first.
- Choose Match Transfer next to the other half.
- A "Matched as a transfer" message appears. Both lines are now Matched, and each says where the money went or came from: "Transfer to" or "Transfer from" and the other account's name in the Statement drop-down.
If the list says "No line in another account for the same amount going the other way", the other half is not in Todah yet. Import or connect the other account, then try again.
Changing your mind
Choose More actions → Unmatch on either half. Both lines go back to Unmatched, and Todah says "Unmatched both sides of the transfer".
Common transfers
- Chequing to savings, and back.
- Paying off the business credit card from chequing, when the card account is also in Todah: the withdrawal from chequing and the payment arriving on the card are the two halves.
- Moving money between two business chequing accounts at different banks.
Good to know: A transfer to or from your personal account is not a transfer between business accounts. Categorise it as an Owner draw or an Owner contribution instead.
