Cost of Sales and Overheads: every bill line behind your P&L
Business and up
Two lists that show, line by line, which bill lines make up the cost and overhead figures on your profit and loss.
The Profit and Loss gives you two totals for spending. These two reports show what is inside each one, one bill line per row, so you can check that every cost is in the right place.
- In the menu on the left, choose Reports.
- Choose Performance, then Cost of Sales (direct job costs) or Overheads (everything else).
- Pick the period at the top.
- Read the total in the card title (for example Cost of Sales: Total $3,000.00), then the lines in date order.
| Date | The bill's Issue Date. |
|---|---|
| Vendor | Who sent you the bill. A dash means the bill has no vendor. |
| Bill # | The supplier's bill number. |
| Description | What you typed on the bill line. |
| Category | The expense category on the line. Uncategorised lines appear under Overheads. |
| Amount | The line before tax. These add up to the total in the title. |
| Tax | The tax on the line. |
| Total | Amount plus Tax. |
Tip: Found a line in the wrong list? Change the expense category on that bill line. The reports update straight away.
